With message 5 in the pipeline from yesterday, I now have a few more days ahead of my subscribers to work on traffic again. So today, I want to leverage the real estate I already have to build my central list faster.
The steps I’ll take to do that are:
- Create an “unadvertised bonus” box for my download pages
- Create 3 versions of an opt-in form to split test
- Combine the box and opt-in split test, and put that on my members’ homepages.
Are you ready?
Unadvertised Bonus Box
One of the strategies I learned from Mike Filsaime when he first came out with Butterfly Marketing was to use unadvertised bonuses to direct my members to related free offers. This became one of the most popular affiliate tools, and I continue to see great results with it to this day.
But there’s no reason why you can’t give your own unadvertised bonuses, too!
So I’m going to make an unadvertised bonus box that will appear on the members home pages inside my various websites. Once I’m finished uploading the edited pages, I will have added over a dozen additional points of entry for my new list.
Plus, I’m going to create this box in such a way that I’ll be able to grab the code at any point, and put it on any page I have control over. And theoretically, I could put the same box on someone else’s page if we were to do some sort of ad-swap.
To create my box, I’m going to look at my standard members home page template that I use. Each of the Step 1, Step 2, Step 3… boxes have a standard format for me: 600 pixels wide, cell padding of 10, black border of 2.
With the outside of my box ready, I can now make the opt-in forms that will go inside.
Create 3 Opt-In Form Variations
Since I like to split test as much as possible, I’m going to create 3 variations of the bonus form. For the basis of my form, I’ll look at the 4 forms I’m testing on my squeeze page. The best one will become the starting point.
However, since this will be inside the members area of my own sites, I can use different language at the top. Here are the 3 versions I’ll test. Notice how I’m only testing how Unadvertised Bonus header looks to start with.

I’m not sure which one will win out, but it will serve as the basis for my next test.
At some point in the future, I’ll put a picture to see if that improves conversions. I’ll test my standard profile photo, as well as an Audio CD product image, since they get that MP3 as a gift.
Paste Split Test Code On Websites
The only step remaining is to paste the code for the box onto all the download pages where I want it to appear. I’ll put it on the bottom of each members homepage of the sites I use Butterfly Marketing on, starting with the most popular ones.
But I’ll also keep that code handy for new sites, and anywhere else where I can put opt-in boxes (like the Ning communities I control for example).
The best part of this strategy today is I can later go back and change the original opt-in forms I’m split testing, and the new versions will automatically show up on all the places where I’ve pasted in the split test code. That’s pretty cool!

p.s. Obviously if you don’t have your own websites yet, today’s step may be further ahead. But you should still create the unadvertised bonus box, and as you continue to grow and form joint venture relationships, you’ll have it ready to share.
